Whole Animals for the Whole Region

Hampshire College, in partnership with Smith College, Westfield State University, Adams Farm, Mount, Holyoke College, The Hotchkiss School, and Whippoorwill Farm was awarded $250,000 to introduce nose to tail dining at college campuses and increase institutional purchases of beef and pork from local New England farmers.

Rhode Island School of Design, in partnership with Johnson & Wales University and Farm Fresh Rhode Island, was awarded $250,000 to create a line of local products with its own brand and associated student engagement initiative.


Supporting Local Fishing and Underutilized Fish Species

University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, in partnership with Northeastern University, New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center, Eastern CT State University, Massachusetts Maritime Academy Foundation, Chartwells Higher Education, Ipswich Fish, and Farm Fresh Rhode Island was awarded $250,000 to improve sourcing and purchasing systems to incorporate traceable local fish with an emphasis on abundant, underutilized species. Partner institutions committed to make local fish at least 75% of all fish served on each campus.


Supporting New England Kelp Farming as a Way to Expand New Locally Produced Food Sources

Massachusetts Maritime Academy Foundation, UMASS Dartmouth, Northeastern University, Eastern CT State University, Chartwells Higher Education, Farm Fresh Rhode Island, Sardelli Produce, and Dole and Bailey was awarded $250,000 to introduce university and college students to kelp via menus alongside a marketing plan to raise awareness and communicate the benefits of kelp.


Farming More Land & Extending the Season

Harvard University, in partnership with Tufts University, New Entry Sustainable Farming Project, Costa Fruit & Produce, and CommonWealth Kitchen was awarded $250,000 to expand farmland in production by incentivizing farmers to take on new land and invest in new forms of growing and storage for several high-volume crops of shared interest.
